Papiss Cisse is refusing to wear a shirt with Newcastle's new sponsor, a payday loan company, citing religious grounds.

Cisse has vowed not to score until they change sponsors. Oh wait, that was last year ...

Apparently he was also spotted last year in a casino. He insists he wasn't gambling ... but that's not exactly helping his cause. Not, by the way, that you should need to be deeply religious to think payday loan companies are evil.

Isn't the whole league sponsored by a bank?

That too. He's backed down now, unsurprisingly.

I ran into the Norwich City club shopping at the Nike Employee Store today. They lost a friendly to the Timbers last night. The players and staffers I spoke with were unbelievably friendly and happy to talk football. G Carlo Nash is big, and was walking around the store in bare feet, which I thought was funny.

I also saw Robert SNODGRASS!! but did not recognize him until I got home and looked at their roster on their home page. I did not realize that Grant Holt had signed with Wigan, to be closer to his family.

Anyhow it was neat and they did not big-time anyone, probably because 99 percent of the people in the store had no idea who they were. I really wanted to at least say hello to Chris Hughson but he was not there yet.

Cool. But 1) how did you get into the employee store and 2) can you hook a brother up with some of the those new Free Flyknits?

Is CONCACAF going make a decision on Jurgen before the anthems are played? This must be disrupting his wardrobe decision making process.

The white smoke has been spotted. Suspended. Guess you can't complain about two players simultaneously tackling your player from behind like you used to.
