The TV thread

This place used to discuss television pretty well.

Now we're left with discussions of procedurals and calling anything with a pulse pretentious.

The brain drain here has been astounding.

Honestly, I just don't watch all that much new TV anymore. A couple of streaming shows a year and that's really about it.

I've been going back and rewatching classic TV shows. Me and my husband watched all of the Bob Newhart Show, MASH, and now we're on The deck Van Dyke Show.

Well chosen! If you want a moderate change of pace from sitcoms, go see the Mavericks that have James Garner as Bret Maverick. They're westerns but with comedy. As I post this, I'm watching Perry Mason.

Reacher is going to shoot a lot of bullets pretty soon. Me happy.

Honesty, Ritchson is the only reason to watch the show. He does everything most (every?) man wishes he could do and pulls it off in such a cocky, but just short of arrogant, way that it works.

I'm not surprised. Maybe I wasn't the audience as an old dude, but I found it pretty unwatchable. Most of the panelists were unknown and many tried too hard to be funny. It would have been better as a traditional talk show.

I'm getting a lot of mileage out of old sitcoms and procedurals on Prime TV's live stations.

I enjoy the lack of pretentiousness. ;)

The only new sitcoms I've made appointment television are Shifting Gears and Abbott Elementary. I've tried giving the Night Court reboot a try but I can't get into it. My wife gives me shirt because I'm on my 33 trip through Becker, Cheers, Frasier (the new Frasier actually isn't bad) and I'll watch the Cosby Show if I channel surf past TVONE. I also started re-watching Moonlighting when it landed on Hulu and found the writing held up well, but the sexual advances of David Addison come off as very cringe in 2025.
