Cutting cord, Hulu + Live TV

Cut DirecTV after 22 years two years ago for YouTube. Don't get Altitude for Avalanche/Nuggets but don't really care. I get what I want with it at about one-third the cost.

I would do YouTube or Hulu (the bundle with things we already get is pretty big), but I don't think I can live without Altitude at the moment, especially after having it for the past few years again. Crossthread, but this regional sports thing needs to be fixed.

I have YouTube TV, and get Prime and Hulu as a trade-off with my daughter's subscriptions.

Look into Pluto TV, too. It's free, has a lot of cool "niche" channels.

Good luck with that. Might as well have said, "We've just got to build these pyramids."

I was pretty much at the shouting and profanity stage when I was finally able to cancel in 2021.

I pay $204/month for a mid-tier Xfinity package, including HBO Max (but no regional sports) and 800 mbps internet. I could save a few bucks by dropping to 500 mbps. Maybe I'll do that the next time the price jumps.
Bingo! I can imagine it right now (haven't dialed yet, tried online, no go)

I got a strange "Welcome to DIRECTV" text message early this week and an equally perplexing "Register your DIRECTV account" email on the same morning.

Figured that maybe my old account somehow got activated, maybe by a hacker or something. Called DIRECTV to make sure my account was not active so I would not be billed. First try, person could not understand what I wanted. I eventually ended the call. Second try, an Indian accent so deep I could make out nothing he was saying. I ended the call. Third try, I eventually was switched over to a "senior manager" in charge of retention (they kept thinking I wanted to cancel my account, when all I really wanted to do was to make sure an already-canceled account was not active).

I was eventually ashured that my account is not active. We'll see. But I could feel that hated frustration starting to boil in having to deal with that company.

YouTube TV has some peculiarties. Doesn't have A&E or MLB Network. It doesn't have my local RSN for baseball and hockey. I read somewhere that the RSN wants to drive people to its streaming service. There is some other market where this happened.

Samsung TV has a bunch of channels. Mostly just old stuff, but can be interesting.

YouTube TV's setup is also a pain in the ash. No station numbers, so it is constant scrolling. Also, the forward/reverse system is strangely bad. It's just 15 seconds ahead or back.

Unlimited recording of shows might be the pinnacle of human innovation. I don't watch anything live. Get through a football game in 2/3 the time.
