Is there any point to the SI swimsuit issue other than to generate buzz and get people to talk about it? Continuing mission accomplished.

Gave ya a like, but we need the Just Say No Bear for the "ILF" part.Forget GILF, she's old enough in some states to be a GGILF.
If SI really wanted to "stimulate" sales, it would do someone in mesh again ... excluding Gayle King, of course.I think the '78 issue with Cheryl Tiegs in the white mesh suit was my first one. My parents confiscated it and wouldn't let me have it. I was super pissed, until I realized I had other friends with the issue.
Every year. You look at the cover model and think, "There could never be a more beautiful woman."
Then the next year, "Wow, she is even more beautiful than last year."
Then the next year .........
I have to admit, I had completely forgotten about Stacey Williams. I guess I lied back in the day when I said I would never forget her. Thanks for the memory, Batman.

And then, there came along Petra Nemcova. She was stranded for 18 hours clinging to a palm tree after a tsunami.

Thus, King is unfirable. There would be boycotts of all CBS programming.Nobody, and I mean nobody, has parlayed absolutely zero talent and an ability to attach oneself at the hip to a famous person at the start of the latter's ascension quite like Gayle King. She was terrible as an anchor in Hartford a thousand years ago and she's terrible now, but she's Oprah's BFF so that's enough.
And in May? The timing was perfect in the first issues, between the Super Bowl and March Madness/spring training. Is there any point to the SI swimsuit issue other than to generate buzz and get people to talk about it? Continuing mission accomplished.
