Today is International Clash Day

You are going to have a hard time convincing anyone who saw Little Feat live with Lowell George that he wasn't at least close to God. Myself included. Feet of clay, and killed himself with his addictions far too young, but he was an amazing singer, songwriter, and guitarist.

Agreed. As for having feet of clay, we'd all have very small libraries if we culled titles based on the innocence of sin. Every time I think of Lucian's curated stacks in Sandman, I wonder if there's a music section. George's post-mortem titles would be amazing.

Are you saying that BHG was Keen?

Nope. And not gonna say who it was since I was just a witness and it really isn't my story. Years later, I asked him if he remembered being at FlashYourBoobiesFest. He did. I told him about seeing his exchange with that young woman and the SFBs. He laughed quietly and said, "Assholes."

I'd have a very difficult time pinning down the origin of Americana as a genre. "Will the Circle be Unbroken"? "American Beauty/Workingman's Dead" period Grateful Dead? The Flatlanders? It comes from so many sources and genres cross pollinating that I think that it's easier to list the albums where it begins to emerge as a coherent strain of American music than it is to hang it on anyone in particular.

Oh, man. You could go back to Jimmie Rodgers and Woody Guthrie.

The Mavericks are an Americana band and one of the great things about them is you can't categorize them
They cover Hank Williams and Neil Young, can sound like Elvis Costello and have major jazz and Latin influences
They broke in as a country band
I've always said the best country artists have rock and roll hearts, from Johnny Cash to Dwight Yoakum

True, which is kind of funny given that they started out just playing traditional Mexican music.

Back in the 80s Lone Justice, The Long Ryders and Rank & File all got the alt-country label, which was essentially Americana.
Loved the Long Ryders. The late Jimmy Guterman put out a book detailing the greatest rock albums of all time and the debuts of Lone Justice and Rank and File made the list.

The Long Ryders were really good. I saw them repeatedly back then because they always seemed to be the opening act for bands I liked.
