Twitter is AWESOME

Rogers Sportsnet has fired Damian Goddard for tweeting about his opposition to Sean Avery's support of gay marriage.

Earlier this week, Goddard tweeted in support of hockey agent Todd Reynolds, who used Twitter to voice his opposition to Avery's position.
"I completely and whole-heartedly support Todd Reynolds and his support for the traditional and TRUE meaning of marriage," Goddard tweeted Tuesday.
The TV network then issued its own tweet, saying: "Today's tweet from Damian Goddard does not reflect the views of Rogers Sportsnet."
On Wednesday, it severed ties with Goddard.

In typical fashion, Goddard grabs onto his religion to defend himself…
Tweeted Goddard: "It is times like these when I am so thankful for my Roman Catholic faith. I would be COMPLETELY lost without it." And: "To those who have been...well...critical of my stance, God bless you. You are all in my prayers, and I am so sad for the pain in your lives."

Because, as we all know, if you want to get married and/or see friends and family get married there must be a lot of pain in your life… ::)

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, I don't know what would have possessed Goddard to insert himself into the story like that. Wildly unprofessional.

And just like that... Twitter is getting sued.

A footballer has sued Twitter after a number of the microblogging site's users purported to reveal the name of the player who allegedly had an affair with model Imogen Thomas.

...

Earlier this month, an unknown person or individuals published the names of various people who had allegedly taken out gagging orders to conceal sexual indiscretions on a Twitter account. The account rapidly attracted more than 100,000 followers.

I worked with Goddard years ago when he was busting his ass to do whatever he could to get the kind of job he just pissed away because he couldn't keep his thoughts to himself.

I know another guy who works at CBC who got into all sorts of hot water over a Tweet about Habs fans when they were ragging on Price earlier in the year. Didn't lose his job but came damn close to it.

This is a good one. Nats draft pick in trouble because of some racially offensive tweets...

Here are the tweets...
