Vegas bound. Any ideas?

Cradle, where did you eat. I use restaurant.com but never thought it about for Vegas. Nice tip.

I've looked those up, BTW, and a lot of the restaurants are off-strip places.

Speaking of off-strip places, go a few miles west on Sahara Ave. and eat at Hash House a Go Go. Weird name, outrageous food.

They also have an outlet in Imperial Palace, but that would involve actually going to the Imperial Palace.

For those of use that are loyalists of the locals joints, they also recently opened one at the M Resort / Casino. HUGE portions...

Can't remember if this was already covered in the thread, but the Ellis Island casino has possibly the best BBQ in Vegas, and maybe the best deal on BBQ I've had. Last time I was there, you got a half rack of ribs, two sides and a pretty decent beer from their brew pub for $5.99 (I think). The pizza there is pretty good too - I know it's where a lot of the cab drivers in town eat on their down time, so that's usually a pretty good indicator.

if you visit slickdeals.com you can get even greater discounts. I get $10 gift cards to the local coney island for .80 cents. I can use them once a month... I do this all the time.

Anyway, the reason I come back to the thread is to ask a flight question. I want to check my bags in online before I go because it is $10 cheaper. But I bought my flight through Priceline and not my airline. My airline is spirit (yikes) can I still check in my bags?
We checked one and carried on a fairly large bag and they never even looked at us when we went on Spirit last month. I'd go to their website and try it through there.

Did the steak dinner there 2 years ago. Came with a potato, green beans, salad and a beer for $6.99. It's $7.99 now.

Pancamo, while Mustang is correct that many of the Vegas Restaurant.com offerings are off-strip, there are plenty of stellar options on the strip if you search the site hard enough.

The three aforementioned restaurants where we enjoyed some of the best dinners of our young lives are Valentino at The Venetian and Mix and Fleur de Lys, both at Mandalay Bay. I believe Fleur de Lys shut down late last year and reopened as a completely different restaurant retaining part of the name, now called Fleur by Hubert Keller, though it no longer offers anything through Restaurant.com. Not sure if this cropped photo really does our Fleur de Lys food justice, but I could search the globe and never find tastier surf and turf (front plate).

Mix and Valentino still sell certificates on Restaurant.com last time I checked (planning to return to both during a trip to Vegas this summer when we're back in the States for a month).

Also on the strip, we enjoyed ridiculously cheap lunches at El Segundo Sol in the Fashion Show Mall and right next door at Stripburger, arguably the most popular Vegas Restaurant.com certificate spot.

The only off-strip Restaurant.com certificate we used was the Hash House on West Sahara, and they now sell certificates to the newer on-strip location at IP.

Two other popular Restaurant.com certificates friends have raved about are Ocean One Bar & Grille at Miracle Mile Shops (on-strip) and Flame Steakhouse at El Cortez (downtown).

The key is to visit Restaurant.com on the first of the month, because most restaurants only release a certain number of these certificates (always at the beginning of the month) and ones like Stripburger can sell out within the first day.

Hope that helps. Happy travels.

Had a friend stay at Palazzo from Thursday to Sunday this weekend. He played 19 hours with an average hand of $91. His wife played 11 hours at $86 a hand. He was comped one night a $50 toward food.

In their defense (and it's the only one): this past weekend was a huge one, and they probably didn't feel they had to give away shirt.

But were I you, I'd call them, tell them what you thought of such treatment, tell them you were reconsidering your relationship with the property, and ask them if this is the kind of treatment you might expect, going forward. I'm sure they'll refer to the fact it was the first big March Madness weekend. Note that you'll be coming back when it's quieter, too, but a repeat performance will result in a Hasta La Vista.

Given their costs, being tightfisted with food comps with good customers is marketing insanity.

Call Sheldon Adelson insane then, because he's tightened up the comps at Venetian/Palazzo far more than any other place on the Strip. The guy's always been a piece of work, but lately he's seemed determined to take it to new levels. Go there to eat at a restaurant if you like one, but DO NOT play there.

was trolling the 2+2 poker site and found this about Adelson's hotels, which probably explains the 'cheap comp' stuff up thread:

from the LVRJ 2/5/11:

"Las Vegas Sands Corp. has eliminated free hotel rooms and other complimentary offerings for middle-tier customers at its two Strip resorts, a move one gambling expert called "a terrible thing."

High-end gamblers still receive benefits, such as show tickets and meals.

Company officials said the move was taken to drive the bookings of hotel rooms through group sales and Las Vegas Sands' alliance with InterContinental Hotels, which began marketing The Venetian and Palazzo through its 52 million-member rewards program last fall.

During Las Vegas Sands' fourth-quarter earnings conference call, company Chairman Sheldon Adelson said the elimination of comps has helped sell hotel rooms at The Venetian and Palazzo, resulting in a substantial increase in cash income.

"We know that the subject of comps has been played out all across Las Vegas, but we've taken a different position," Adelson said. "We've essentially cut out all our accounts except the most highly rated players. No more packaging deals to try to be competitive with others. There's no more comp rooms given out. There's no more food and beverage. There's no shopping credits. There's no restaurant credits. There's no showroom credits."

Substantial increase in cash income? Don't you also get that from the craps tables when you put up a degenerate gambler for free? Benny Binion weeps.
