Just spitballing off of what I've seen other places, but does NBC try and lure Gary Thorne away from the Orioles?

Thorne is already off the Orioles, at least he was this past season. Ben McDonald was their PxP guy.

Marchand floated Mike Tirico as a possibility. Did great as a fill-in on a handful of games, but he's got too much going on. Thorne would be outstanding.

NBC's deal is up after next season I believe. I've heard ESPN wants to get in again, not sure if that is a serious possibility. I assume if they did it doesn't mean NBC would be out.

It's a good thought, but Thorne is not a young man. He's almost the same age as Doc Emrick.

If you're the NHL, do you want to be back on ESPN? Surely their games would be buried on ESPN+ or other places that aren't the mothership.

I think they would want some sort of relationship with ESPN. I don't think going exclusive with them would make any sense.

I know there are people who didn't like Doc Emrick, but I always loved it when I flipped to a game and saw he'd be doing the play by play. There was always an amazing joyousness when he was describing what he was watching, and it just seemed so genuine to me. He's also incredibly quick. I always found his enthusiasm infectious, not annoying. I hope he enjoys his retirement.
