What are your company's rules about reporters and editors associating or socializing with elected officials or candidates?

I am going to write the president of the company I work for, the equivalent of publisher, to get a clarification.

For a variety of reasons, some personal, it would be good for me to associate or socialize with elected officials and candidates.

I'm curious about how other companies handle this to get some guidance for my email.

By associating or socializing I mean eating a meal, going to a sporting event or a party.

From my experience, the bigger the paper - the less of a problem it is. Especially in NY and DC.

NYT and WashPo execs and editors have been pals with top Dems for decades. See Ben Bradlee and JFK. Sherrod Brown and Connie Schultz. Karine St. Pierre and Suzanne Malveaux. There are boatloads of conflicts of interest - see also, Fox News.
