Rates are all over the board. Our papers charge on average between $150-$250. It depends on length. But I’ve heard neighboring papers charge a heck of a lot more than that, closer to $500-1,000 easily for the same obit.
IIRC, this is a spot that I was told last year might be opening at this time as they were expecting a couple of retirements on their staff, including the prep reporter position. My family was considering at one time a move up there, and I certainly was looking at this one.

I would go with the spring teams, but maybe put the winter lists up online. I'm taking over a section -- actually re-taking it as I had it once before -- and plan on getting in the remainder of the spring lists that haven't been published yet. But I wouldn't hold on to them too much longer.
The sports editor, Ashley Conklin, is going to the Eugene Register-Guard. He's an Oregon alum.

Damon Cain's office was cleaned out yesterday and the staff was notified last night.
Also, there were 22 buyouts announced last week to the staff. Belief is that 3 we're rescinded. One other staffer quit recently as well, who was not eligible for the buyout.
