Yes, if they go into LTIR leaves them no cap space to add players later on. Teams in LTIR can't accrue cap space. A team that starts the year with even a million in caps space will be able to add a player Making around 4 to 5 mill come the trade deadline. This is why teams will do as much as they can to abound being in LTIR.Another honest question then. What's the difference, cap wise, if Lehner is on LTIR vs. this kind of leave? Does this kind of leave give them an advantage that putting him on LTIR wouldn't give them?
Canucks just gave up a 4th and retained 20% salary to Colorado to take a player that will never play again but this keeps them out of LTIR.
