There is something true about creating scarcity. Limiting tickets to a venue makes it more likely people will buy tickets in advance. The old Cleveland Memorial Stadium had 80k seats - you could wait to see how the weather was before deciding whether to go to a Tribe game. Baseball teams have noticed how well the Red Sox do, even in a smaller stadium. It also enhances the game experience. So, in a way - NW is hoping to fill those 35k seats and not worry about the seats they weren't filling regularly anyway.
I really haven't seen a good piece of sports journalism on the economics of things. The Diamond Sports bankruptcy, the Pac-12's demise, NIL, etc. Which is surprising considering how much sports journalism (in whatever form) is out there.
