Will this get the Rays off their duff to build a new stadium or will they just move to Nashville instead?

Not happening at all. Hell USF is playing there Saturday. It's not raining anymore between now and then so they will drain the field as normal.

IIRC there are plans for a new yard by 2028, but how can you do that now?

Funding was approved in August. The new stadium will open in 2028.

As long as there isn't damage to the roof support structure, getting new Teflon fabric and replacing the roof isn't something that should prevent them from returning long before the new park opens. But if there is damage, it does become a question of whether it's worth the expense to replace it.

In theory, the Rays could play at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa (Yankees, 11,000 capacity) or BayCare Field in Clearwater (Phillies, 8,500 capacity) for a while if needed. Given their crowds at the Trop, it's not like they'd be drawing that many fewer fans, anyhow.

But day games would be brutal and the threat of thunderstorms from June 1 onward would make rain delays a frequent occurrence. They might be able to play the first two months at one of the spring-training venues, but realistically no more than that.

Not because of field conditions but because of Tampa/Hillsborough law enforcement staffing. As you can imagine they are a bit overwhelmed with first responder duties that staffing a lightly attended CFB game was very low on the list of urgency.

But the Bucs play nine days from now and that isn't moving. Flooding here happens daily. It's not the issue you think.

Made it to my house. Freezer held (ice didn't melt), but I think everything in the fridge is going out as a precaution. AC works. Had about an inch of sloppy water in the dining room at some point. Debris everywhere in the carport. Think there are a couple of soft spots in the floor.

Sorry to hear. I've seen Facebook posts similar to yours, particularly with the food. Good luck with the floor damage.

It's funny. With Helene having such destructive surge, that was the major concern, especially for me and others living in St. Petersburg. But it goes south so the water actually regresses....

BUT...what they forgot to tell us is that the north end of the storm brings the nasty. And it was absolutely brutal. Milton was a bad bad man.

Milton was odd because of a west-to-east track, which sort of turns the hurricane's worst quadrant to the northwest instead of the northeast.

Heard today that an old editor of mine in St. Pete had three feet of water in his house and pretty much lost everything. When I interviewed with him 25 years ago I left thinking he wouldn't hire me to mow his lawn, yet he brought me on board and became one of the biggest professional influences of my life. He retired not long ago and I'm just sick about how much turmoil this brings.

The RV park manager just uploaded three videos she took from her golf cart touring the streets. Our trailer looks fine -- although I had to pause and zoom in because a worker in another cart passed by with a load of branches and debris -- from the exterior shots. However, I still have no idea about possible water intrusion or leaking from roof seams.

The park also got power this evening, so I guess we'll have to plan a trip down in the next couple of weeks just to make sure we don't have a major surprise waiting for us in mid-December.
