2025-26 College basketball coaching carousel

At least Magpayo has experience doing the impossible. The only two 20-win seasons for UC-Riverside (speaking of schools that need to consider self-relegating, but at least it's a UC school with an enrollment north of 25,000) since it moved up to D-I were on his watch.

Last time Fordham brought someone in from outside the metro area, Jeff Neubauer (Eastern Kentucky) squeaked out a 17-14 debut season thanks to the softest non-conference schedule imaginable before he sputtered to the finish line with five straight increasingly bad losing seasons. There is not a D-I school--low-level ones barely hanging on included--that need to give up the ghost more than Fordham. forking go back to the MAAC or Patriot and STFU.

UC Riverside has been Division 1 since at least 2000

I feel as if this was the only possible outcome after he aired the school's dirty laundry at a news conference. And it should be noted that this all played out almost exactly the same way as when he left Seton Hall for Maryland (a job he allegedly agreed to take before the Pirates' season was over that year).

Maryland is in a bind now. No AD. No coach, and a late start on both finding one and compiling a team for next year. Plus a school with a reputation for putting resources into an also-ran football team instead of its traditionally successful basketball program.

Left the CCAA for the Big West starting in 1999-2000 academic year.
In a good spot in the Big West too. Except for Davis and Hawaii (and Hawaii joins the Mountain West in 2026), it's all bus trips.

I find it interesting that Buzz Williams is being mentioned for the Maryland gig. Caveat emptor, Testudo.
Buzz is nothing if not predictable. He wears out his welcome and the feelings are mutual by about year five or six.
Marquette: 6 years
Hokies: 5 years
ATM: 6th year
Seems like it's time. Helluva coach. Just don't expect him to stick around.
