2025 Baseball Hall of Fame Clash

Being in the Bay Area, I got the A's games, so I saw Ichiro's debut and the Throw, yeah he popped off the screen immediately. 3000 after a rookie as a 27 yr old is ridiculous. The holdout needs to be ridiculed.

I never watched Wagner and thought "HOFer".

My dad grew up in Cleveland and was a big Browns and Indians fan. A visit by my parents in 2008 happened to coincide with Cleveland in town to play the Yankees. My brother-in-law and I surprised my dad with tickets. His first and only trip to Yankee Stadium.

My pop loved CC Sabatbia and we lucked out that he pitched for Cleveland that day. Sabathia was in his dominant prime. He tossed a gem but gave up a solo shot and lost 1-0.

Dad was in his mid-60s and I'd never seen him look more like a kid. Having fun with a bit of sense of awe/wonder. Of course, it didn't hurt that we all had a few beers, and he wasn't much of a drinker. He got tipsy and it was a fantastic afternoon.

Sabathia didn't win but we got a great day. Tho, mom seemed a bit miffed when we brought dad to the family dinner at a nice joint when he was half in the bag.

That's my CC Sabathia story and congrats to him. He really seems like a stand-up guy. I thought it was brave and inspiring in 2015 with the Yankees when he went public with his alcohol addiction and said he needed to go to rehab and miss the playoffs. I hope that helped a lot of people.

That's a great story about you & your Dad. And I think CC's humanity is a underrated aspect of his appeal. Not only did he go and get help for his alcoholism, he slimmed down following an angioplasty in 2019 and has kept the weight off in retirement. He seems like a good Dad & husband.

I think there's going to be the normal churn of Hall of Very Good guys who will go one-and-done without ever seeing a Veterans Committee ballot, but I think Zobrist will hang on for a year or two. He feels like the rare player who will have some old- and new-school supporters. Old-school guys are gonna love Zobrist because he was a Proven Winner who got Tampa into the World Series and was the difference-maker on consecutive champs in 2015 and 2016 (and won the World Series MVP when the Cubs won it all for the first time in 108 years). And new-school guys are gonna love him b/c he was a modern game delight...nearly 45 in WAR, played all over the diamond and did everything well. Drew a walk, hit for power, played everyday. He's not going to the HOF but I can see him getting a little bit of support for a couple years.

Wrong again, idiot! :D Zobrist, Fernando Rodney & Hanley Ramirez were the only guys to get shutout. No surprise on Ramirez but I thought Zobrist and Rodney would have gotten a stray vote or two.

Late to the party, but C.C. Sabathia remains a folk hero in Milwaukee for his half-season brilliance in ending the 26-year playoff drought in 2008.

Absolute brilliance and he often pitched on short rest ... even though he was a rental in a contract year. A 1.65 ERA (255 ERA+), 128 strikeouts in 17 appearances, a 1.003 WHIP.

No one was more valuable than he was in a regular season playoff run. He should have won the NL Cy Young in a repeat of the Rick Sutcliffe-style Cy Young he won in a partial season with the Cubs in 1984. Tim Linceum won it, but he couldn't hold a candle to C.C. that year.

Sadly, C.C. ran out of gas in the playoffs, but what a run that was. Sabathia is equally fond of Milwaukee and speaks of it often. He is beloved in a way few short-term players are.

Or didn't vote at all? Its based on ballots submitted right? Don't think you could put anyone else on the ballot and not include Ichiro.

I believe the HOF/BBWAA said there were no empty ballots and that the final percentages were based only on submitted ballots (i.e. anyone who didn't submit one was not counted in the final tally).
