American Idol Finale 5/22

OK, touche. I still think Clarkson's a bigger player in the game than Underwood.

Underwood, who has won a gazillion awards?

Clarkson had one dominating song and several middling ones. Underwood has hit it big with (I believe) every single off her album.

I like Clarkson and I hate country. That said, Underwood is by far the better talent. She nails any song she does.

I do like "Before He Cheats."

Dialidol.com has Jordin in a runaway.

And I can't say which one is bigger, but the Breakaway album by Clarkson had at least five good hit songs. I don't think one can say one is a bigger phenomenon than the other.

This was the final I wanted to see all along.
I knew Jordin would win, but I thought Blake was in it until that last song. It really was amazing to hear how much better Jordin sounded on it than he did.
And Carrie Underwood had the fastest-selling debut album in history and won two Grammys (including best new artist).
She is clearly a better deal than Clarkson.
According to Wikipedia, Underwood has a journalism degree. How can you not love her?

Two things...
They showed the finalists in the audience, but did anyone ever spot Gina.
What was with the rotating celebs in the first row.. first song, Denise Richards was in the back ground kinda over Simon's left shoulder... second song, gone... third song, someone else

I'm sorry - I was so bored I actually kept switching back to "The Bachelor" - man that Bevin is HOT! Where does the line start now that she's back on the market? And then it came to me why I'm so unimpressed with Jordin, she reminds me of Kimberly Locke, a good, but not great singer. And at least Locke had some soul, I don't get that from Jordin, nor Blake.

Bingo! I knew she reminded me of a previous contestant. Although, I disagree, I think Jordin has more of "it" than Kimberly Locke did. And she's hotter, in a total 17-year-old, legal kind of way. ;)

Anyone that thinks Clarkson is a bigger hit than Underwood simply isn't paying attention to anything. It's not even close. In career development or looks.

I think Jordin wins, but she didn't blow me away tonight. Average at best. Blake sucked. Big time. Very disappointing show.

OK, those of you who DVR'd the show, answer me this:

How did they edit Jordin's ending? She was crying at the end of her last song, but when they showed the recap, she wasn't crying. It's a totally different ending. Did the producers record Jordin and Blake during rehearsal in front of everyone (before the show)? And, why edit her performance like that?

They've always done it that way. The final performance of the recap on every episode is always from the rehearsal. I assume it's purely to give them more time to edit it, because otherwise they would have a very quick turnaround to air that video after the final performance. You can always spot some little difference. This was probably the most obvious -- although back in season 2 they did a recap and Clay was wearing glasses on the tape, and had just performed without them.

On a different note... they held a contest and picked THAT song? Jesus, that was brutal.

Can I still vote for Melinda? Jordin clearly was better tonight, but last week's result ruined the finale for me.

Amen. I spotted Melinda in two, three different shots during the show. She didn't smile once. Melinda should have been in the finals, no doubt.

Blake made a case with that Bon Jovi song again. Maroon 5 was OK. Last one, eh. Dooley's right, he should have gone crazy with the beat box and mixed that song up big time, rather than trying to Keane it. If there was any doubt before, that performance coupled with Jordin's probably sealed it.

Clarkson is the superior singer and will outlast Underwood.

I never saw Gina. OR Sanjaya. Howard Stern said on his show Sanjaya is suing Idol because he thinks the results were fixed. Did anyone hear that?

I don't know. I prefer Clarkson, but Underwood sure seems to have a ready-made market. I don't see that going away any time soon.
