Pie >>> cake anytime all the timeThe best pie I've had was a black walnut cream pie. Devine.
I wrote a magazine story 10 or 12 years ago about the best pies in my state, and that was my favorite. I tried eight pies, one for every day of the week plus an extra because it's always pie time.
I didn't bother with a coconut pie because my mom makes the best, a white coconut without a cream top; I could eat half a pie right now. That one is a time consuming pain in the ass to make, so I get it maybe once a year at best.
I haven't picked blackberries in a few years, but that's a favorite in cobbler form. Tart cherries from the trees in our yard were great in pies or right off the branches.
I like pie better than cake every day.
I have tried to be understanding through all the supply chain shortages, but the lack of egg nog may be what breaks me. I had to get the Fireball brand last night because it was the first I'd seen on the shelves in three weeks. Even without the namesake frat boy alcohol it tastes like it was strained through a vat of Red Hots.
Check with the local pantries. If you can't donate it, go HAM on the ham.Ham error in my favor! Our wealth management firm, being based in the South, usually sends me a honey-baked ham for Christmas. It didn't come when it usually does in mid-December. My wife got impatient and ordered one, which came quickly and we've been eating it pretty steadily. This afternoon, the wealth management's ham arrived. If it wasn't for the pandemic, I'd just buy some more booze and have a neighborhood open house, but now, I'm kind of at a loss. My children and my daughter-in-law leave the day after Christmas. Alice and I will be having a lot of ham. Could I give it to a food pantry? I've only ever donated canned goods and staples like rice and pasta.
