Similar to the sponge idea, you can wet a few cotton balls and put them in a gallon-sized ziplock bag or a tupperware box. You want the sponge/cotton balls damp, not dripping. The idea is to keep the cigars at around 65 to 70 percent humidity, and at about 70 degrees if you can.
For what it's worth, a decent starter-size humidor (50 count) is only about 25 bucks plus a few dollars shipping on the cigarbid site.
