College football -- 10/12-14

Question about the Florida/Auburn box...

Leak threw for 108 yards, yet his receivers caught nine passes for 115. The box score lists the Gators as having 78 net yards passing. What the heck is up with that?

According to the box Tebow never attempted a pass. What am I missing?

Good point, Oz. On the other hand, what if Michigan beats Ohio State? Is Ohio State -- with a win over Texas, if it comes down to those teams -- No. 2?

Not if someone else is undefeated at that time.
Four Three other undefeateds on the board (Boise State doesn't count). Two play each other. We'll see.

Yeah, but for argument's sake, say Ohio State beats Michigan in a 1-2 matchup and no other unbeaten team is your BCS powerhouse (Boise State). I don't think you just assume Michigan is the second-best team. Texas could also finish with one loss, with that being against the Buckeyes, same as Michigan.

Well yeah, Notre Dame might have one loss, too. If they're tied with Michigan, who goes??

;) :D :D

Say OSU and U-M go into their game ranked 1-2. Say U-M wins a very, very tight game (just for fun, say OT).

Rematch in the BCS title game?? ::)

You have to be a conference champion to play in the title game. Look it up.

After USC's performances the last three weeks, I can't see them beating Cal, Oregon and Notre Dame.

And it gets even better (per ESPN)...

The brawl lasted about five minutes, and it took officials several more minutes to sort out the penalties. Players from both sides appeared to be swinging helmets, and one injured FIU player came onto the field swinging a crutch at Miami players.

To nitpick ... that's AP copy that ESPN happened to post on its web site ...

More than two dozen uniformed police officers came onto the field, trying to end the fights.

Several minutes after order was restored on the field, one fight broke out among fans in the northwest corner of the end zone, with more than 12 police officers running into the stands to break up that melee. More officers, including some wearing helmets, continued to surround the perimeter of the field.

Helmets!

Buck: I'm not saying there should necessarily be a rematch, but I don't think you can automatically dismiss the idea. The NCAA hoops analogy doesn't fly; that's an actual single-elimination, postseason tournament. The Michigan-Ohio State game is a regular-season game, not a semifinal. After the regular season comes not a tournament, but an attempt to pair the two best teams against each other.

Disembodied: Do you have a link to that rule? I don't see it here: http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/eligibility

Oh, baby, give me 1-2 OSU-Michigan!!!

OSU could be the first team (I think) to play, let alone win, THREE 1-2 games in a season.

Peterson's out, Leak's out, Wolfe's out. You're looking at Troy Smith and Quinny as the Heisman favorites, right?

Also, as an aside, if you're OSU are you now a little more worried to play IU than you were to play MSU?

A LITTLE more worried, yes. Indiana is now a *much* better team than Sparty.

But OSU is still in another galaxy. I think OSU's "worry index" goes from .0000001 percent to .00001 percent.
