College football week 14 thread: ATLiens

If I'm a pollster, I'm putting Bama and Georgia in the top five next year because - they've delivered for the past five years. And you can say the same for Michigan and Ohio State. Consistently. With different players. Those programs aren't "paper tigers." I still say though - that the quality of their opponents is a little uninspiring. Bont in non-conference and conference play.
Bama draws Georgia and Mizzou at home next fall, plus LSU, Oklahoma and Tennessee away. And a trip to Camp Randall in non-conference.

Because, of course, what Bama and Georgia have done the past five years means exactly the same this season and the next and the next. With the same players and all. Yes, let's keep doing that.
I would say, in the past, that past success led to recruiting success and that somewhat justified the same teams being ranked year after year (stress on the word "somewhat").

But with the transfer portal, a lot of that goes out the window. Hell, the Ohio State QB is transferring after one year of starting in Columbus. And we're still really early in the timeframe for transfers.

Is there evidence of a team getting left out because "they started too low in the polls"?

The two memorable screw jobs (TCU, FSU) involved teams that had elevated into playoff position --- only to be dropped back at the last minute.

Not left out but before the playoff era, one of the most memorable was the 1983 Miami Hurricanes with Bernie Kosar, who were unranked in preseason and beat Nebraska in a dramatic Orange Bowl game for the national championship.

They entered that game No. 5, and everyone in front of them lost that day.

No. 3 Auburn beat No. 8 Michigan 9-7 in the Sugar Bowl. No. 2 Texas lost 10-9 to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl. The final polls though had Miami No. 1, Nebraska No. 2 and Auburn No. 3.

I mean, it was Auburn in the 1980s. They were probably cheating and we just didn't know it yet.

Just realized that this will be Michigan's first Rose Bowl in 16 years. I hope they put Rose insignias on the shoulders like they have done in the past.

Oklahoma QB transferring to Oregon. No wonder the 4-star recruit decommitted the other day.

Must have worked the NIL deal out quickly since you can't make contact with a recruit until he's in the portal (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha),

Not true. He just went into the portal today and hasn't committed anywhere.
