Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Best: Metallica, LA Forum, Feb. 13, 1992. Pulled everything out of the songbook. Amazing show.

Worst: Spice Girls, 1998, Deer Creek, IN. And they were darn entertaining.

Next: Rush in Kansas City. The last band I love who I haven't seen.

Last: The Police, this year in St. Louis. Excellent show.

Best: They Might Be Giants, Bogart's, Cincinnati, college.
Worst: Bryan White, free in some field, early 20s.
Last: Hell if I even remember.

Best: Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East, 1971 (or maybe it was '72)
Last: Bruce at Shea Stadium October 1, 2003 (and Giants Stdaium July 15 and Aug. 29, 2003)
Next: Police this coming Sunday at Giants Stadium (and I hope they don't suck!)

Forgot worst: Black Oak Arkansas as the opening act to an otherwise spectacular Doobie Brothers/Chicago show at Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, Labor Day 1974

Best: too embarrashing to mention. Ahh fork it, Night Ranger at Toad's Place in New Haven in '97. I was about to move away from home and start a new job and I went with one of my best friends from childhood, a fellow nutjob Night Ranger fan. We were in the first row and knew the words to every song. forking awesome. It was a really great, symbolic way to start a new chapter in life.

Worst: Do opening acts count? Britny Fox made my innards hurt opening for Poison in '88. Shut up!

Last: Hall and Oates. Do I have any remnants of manhood remaining? No. No I do not.

Next: Police with the old man!!!

Best -- Def Leppard (Euphoria Tour), they played Let It Go, my all-time favorite song of theirs.

Worst -- Creed (final time they went out). The infamous Scott Stapp is stoned tour, and yea, he was that night in Evansville too.

Last -- Pearl Jam, a benefit concert for the new Montana senator.

Next -- ? Who knows.

You be quiet, BYH! You be darn quiet right now! There's nothing wrong with seeing Hall & Oates in concert. Your manhood, such as it is, will be fine.

Moving on.

First: (gulp) Hall & Oates '83, Summerfest in Milwaukee. Opening act: Scandal!
Best: Beck '96.
Worst: Tie between God awful Atari Teenage Riot, who opened for Beck, and sad to say, B.B. King. I'll bet he'd be good in a club, but at a big concert venue it just sucked.
Last: I dunno, LL Cool J at Summerfest '02 or '03? I've got young kids so concerts haven't been on the frontburner.
Next: ?

Best: Either O.A.R. and Counting Crows in Chicago in '02 or one of the other O.A.R. shows I've been to.

Worst: Probably 3-6 Mafia last year. I think most rap groups don't go over as well live. Or Santana about three years ago. The speakers were terrible at the venue and Santana allowed other band members to jam and do more solos than himself. Went to the show to see him, and hear him on the guitar, not the drummer and horns.

Last/Next: Same local band that plays at one of the bars I go to.

Most awkward: Saw Clapton last year in London. Everyone was sitting the whole show, except for when he played Layla. As soon as he played the first few notes everyone went nuts. The next song they were sitting again and possibly tapping their feet or clapping to act interested. It's hard to get into a show, rock out and have a good time when everyone is sitting.

Best: The Toadies at the Route 66 Roadhouse in Amarillo, April 2001. I've never seen anyone rock as hard as they did in a glorified rec room. Talked hockey with bashist Lisa Umbarger after the show, too.

Worst: I'll get pilloried for this but Dave Matthews Band has never been impressive either time I've seen it.

Last: Hmmm... God it's been more than a year. Megatron (jazz/funk/soul/jam) at Ciribin's in Bellingham, Wash. I got way past hammered.
