Dear 9U fall baseball coach: Really? Let the kids play something else.

But how will they be ready for 10U winter season, 10U spring season, Little League season and 10U fall season?

You have to get in as many baseball games as possible before the 8th grade coaches demand the kids drop baseball for summer weights, team camp and 7-on-7.

As I told in the email, we only run our sports calendar in the Monday edition of the newspaper. I'm sorry you didn't send me the email about your tryouts set for Aug. 18 until this morning. But that's a "you" problem, not a "me" problem.

I'll gladly update our online version of the calendar, but I'm not running a special announcement just because you futzed around and didn't get the info to me earlier.

Calling my executive editor and then our publisher won't change that.

You've potentially cost an entire team of rug rats scholarships. Well done!

Anyway, the local junior college wanted us to know that Ryan Lochte once swam in their pool in 2004. 1) Why do I care? 2) If I was to care, shouldn't you have sent this 2-3 weeks ago BEFORE the Olympic swim events were done.

Did he Pish in it your pool, too? If so, we might have a story there. Sort of serial Pisher on the loose.

Yes, fall ball is the biggest joke going.
That kind of specialization drives me nuts...and is a main reason my paper celebrates the top "Three-Sport" athletes at our area high schools at the end of each school year.

There's great value in switching it up...volleyball is big in my area and you see these juniors and seniors in high school with terrible knees because they are jumping up and down in front of a net 12 months a year. Silly.

We have a group here trying to raise money to build an indoor facility for winter baseball/softball tournaments.

Well, I said, it's because we don't sell papers there -- it's 70 miles away and outside of our circulation footprint.

That really didn't suit her. She was confident that we "had something against" that team.
