Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!! said:Watched Anvil the story of Anvil.
Meh.
It's a 90-minute story of two 50 year-olds, who had 15 minutes of fame in the early 1980s and they keep trying to parlay it into full-blown success.
They could have done a lot more with this ... The lead singer is 50 years old with a wife and three kids. He works a dead-end job - gets paid shirt - to hang on to the rock-n-roll dream.
The preview for the movie discusses how the band paved the way for future metal bands, but I don't think that was the case. These guys were no different than a half million other bands who flirted with success before falling back to earth.
The dude from Anthrax had the money quote in the beginning: he said something along the lines of if you can't do better than Anvil you need to give up and go home.
I had heard such good things about the movie that I expected a lot more.
A lot of backstory information was left out.
The biggest problem I had was the pitiful tone of the movie. The director seems to want the viewer to feel sorry for these guys, who clearly feel sorry for themselves.
You didn't make it big. Is the viewer supposed to feel pity?
