Mike Reed Sets Goals for New Gannett

In the Boston Globe's RI newsletter today - The executive editor of the Providence Journal, David Ng, is out. He only took the job in January 2021. The company noted it was part of trying to reduce division costs by 6 percent overall.

I got word that George Stanley, editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, will retire at the end of the year. There's a strong candidate to promote form within, but I wonder if they'll bring in someone with the Gannett "vision."
Meanwhile, Mark Treinen, who was editor of the Green Bay Press-Gazette and news director for Gannett's 10 papers in eastern and northeastern Wisconsin, has chucked it to be editor of the Madison Capital Times, which hasn't had a print edition since 2008.

What periodical provides better coverage of Rhode Island, the Journal or the Globe? At what point does the electronic subscriber in Rhode Island dump the Journal and switch to the Globe?

I mean, I did a couple years ago, but that's also because I have no love for Gatehouse, having been laid off by them. ;) The Globe's newsletter, the Rhode Map, is kind of the perfect product for me, though. I've moved to Texas, but still want to keep up with the big stuff happening in Rhode Island, plus the Globe "works" well enough as a paper covering the nation as a whole. I get the Houston Chronicle through work, otherwise, I might be subbed to that instead. (Hard to justify two newspaper subs, when I barely make it through one a day.)

Worked as a part-timer briefly for the O&E papers in Oakland County a looooooooong time ago. It was the first time I'd ever worked in a Guild newsroom and compared to my previous stop, it was heaven. Sad to see those papers go under.
