Mike Reed Sets Goals for New Gannett

The CherryRoad thing is buying another half dozen papers in Minnesota. Are we thinking this is good or bad for these papers?

heh, Yeah. I believe Lancey is correct - It's all about the accounting. They can produce $x million on the balance sheet for now, even though it might mean they lose all of that money over the next Y years, because they're leasing instead of owning the land and facilities.
There was a cryptically-worded email sent late yesterday (well, cryptic for me because I can't pretend to understand corporate-ese).
To wit, this is how it began:
As part of North Star #3, optimizing our traditional Print and Advertising businesses, we have recognized an increased need to focus on property-level performance in order to achieve our financial objectives in 2022. In support of this planning, we are formalizing and expanding the role of our current Print Optimization Pod to help provide this property-level focus in addition to evaluating our print product offerings and their frequency.

Um, what?

As it was explained to me (in baby words) they're gonna start cutting a) publishing days and/or b) entire operations.

Sounds like they're going to be cutting more people and dumping more work on the poor Local Information Center MoJos and Editorial Coaches on the Digital Desks of the Print Optimization Pods to further cover the Moments of Life in their Real Life, Real News 2000 agenda.

Did I get it all?

You forgot about how new ad revenues brought in by DealChicken will drive engagement to stories produced in the Newsroom of the Future, but you got most of it.

The Record in northern NJ also announced it's dropping Saturday print editions. Seems to be widespread throughout New Gannett. Perhaps the start of a weaning process with additional hard copy days to be dropped?
