Take that line of 40 and instead make it two lines of 20, and then the zipper merge goes to work. Turns out the drivers jumping the line aren't the problem.
Of course, one ashhole road rager in Macho 'Murrica can screw that up fast, too.
Yeah, that's the point, two lines all the way until the end. People getting into a lane a mile before you need to and leaving the other lane completely empty even though functional is crazy. Or not letting people over who heaven forbid use that lane.
There is one spot in my neck of the woods right now that because of construction gets bottlenecked totally. It happens where a toll lane (and they aren't even charging for tolls yet) ends. Zipper or not, if you don't take that toll lane all the way until it ends and get over you are going to spend an extra 20 minutes in that traffic. Guaranteed. Honestly, I have seen few problems with people letting others in, but it is crazy that the thought somewhere became don't use all the road available to you.
