All went well with surgery yesterday. Screws are in place in his neck, and he's moving his hands and feet. He will never have full range of movement in his neck again, but all things considered, this is the best possible outcome.

Now hopefully we can focus on sending his ashailant to prison and with suing the living crap out of him.
