How much in the future before viewership eclipses broadcast and cable, though? 10 years? And human beings have been getting screwed by kickoff times for the last 25+ years. Not a new thing.

Yes, I know, sports fans and airline customers get royally hosed. But TV has to fit into specific windows, and streaming doesn't, so that could be a big change down the road.

UNLV athletic director Erick Harper told the Board of Regents last week that his department can only cover the costs of the first two years of football coach Dan Mullen's five-year contract.
At a meeting Friday in Henderson, Harper told regents that the university's athletic department is $26 million to $31 million in debt. He then was asked by regent Joseph Arrascada how he plans to pay for Mullen's $17.5 million contract.
"Because you have $3.5 million for five years … you're running nearly $30 million in the red," Arrascada said. "What is the plan to pay the coach, and how is it going to get done."

Harper said he hopes to raise money through donations and increased revenue from football games to pay Mullen, hired in December to replace Barry Odom, for the final three years of his contract.
"We have the funds to pay the coach over the next two years," Harper said. "We have been working with our donors to ashist with philanthropic dollars. We have one that has already paid their commitment, and that money is in an unrestricted line and that will be utilized in the future to help with the salaries."

Stanford head football coach Troy Taylor bullied and belittled female athletic staffers, sought to have an NCAA compliance officer removed after she warned him of rules violations and repeatedly made "inappropriate" comments to another woman about her appearance, according to documents from a pair of investigations obtained by ESPN.

After the first investigation, Taylor signed a warning letter on Feb. 14, 2024, acknowledging he could be fired if the conduct continued, according to the documents. Additional complaints were documented in a second investigation that ended last July 24, but Taylor remains on the job.

Both investigations determined that Taylor's treatment of employees, particularly of women, was inconsistent with Stanford's standards.

One of the sources who spoke with ESPN on condition of anonymity said that, while Taylor is an "equal opportunity a--hole," his behavior more often targeted women.
