NFL Week 1 thread -- Where we learn the meaning of Vão pássaros

There is no way to write into law “Ordinarily this would be a violation, but this guy needed roughin’ up.” And given there is a 50-50 chance of America returning to the previous management, you shouldn’t want that to exist.

I don't see anybody arguing for that. I see people willing to acknowledge that Hill's behavior was part of the problem. That doesn't mean the reaction by the police officer was acceptable or legal.

You guys are exactly saying this, it’s okay to get slammed to the ground because he didn’t comply AND he’s Tyreek Hill who MAY have been acting entitled.

You may not be saying this outright but saying both could be wrong is slyly equating the two and thus negating the degree of wrongdoing.

Was Hill’s conduct perfect? No.
Has he shown to be a perfect human? No
Did he commit a traffic violation? Yes (speeding)

Does that allow him to get manhandled and thrown to the ground? No.

All this, “well he didn’t follow orders” doesn’t justify the actions and clear civil rights violations.

Just because you commit a crime and ignore a command doesn’t give law enforcement free rein to ignore you as a citizen.

Constitution for everyone, including criminals, or no one because the whole point is not to let the government choose who gets rights and when they apply.

No, that is not what I'm saying. The police officer was wrong to throw him to the ground. He deserved to be suspended and I hope there is a lasting consequence. Hill being a dickhead does not justify the officers actions in any way.

That said, Hill did act like a dickhead. We can still acknowledge that his behavior was stupid. That doesn't justify what the police officer did.

I just don't understand anyone carrying water for Tyreek Hill. Tyreek Hill has shown us who he is. Does anyone really think he gets the benefit of any doubt here?
You can separate this particular incident from the piece of shit human he is.

Our societal discourse has no setting for “both sides fucked up.” We always have to have a Winner and a Loser, a Good Guy and Bad Guy. It’s totally ok in some instances to say that both sides were wrong, and that one side’s wrong in no way justified the other.

Exactly. I respect qtlaw and I get why he is reacting so strongly. I also agree with what he is saying about the police officer's behavior. But I disagree with his stance that we can't also acknowledge Hill's mistakes.

I’m not saying what Hill did was ok. We’re on the same page.

I’m just emphasizing that he did nothing to justify what happened to him and giving the police a pass will hurt everyone, history shows that.

BTW, I think Jets fans would be happy about Rodgers’ performance last night was pretty darn good. He grew some sweet passes. They haven’t had QB play like that since my other classmate Pro Bowler Ken O’Brien. They’ll be pretty good this year.

The defense was alarmingly bad. No pressure on the QB, but they made up for it by allowing WRs to settle into wide-open zones all while the 49ers ran at will. They will bully mediocre-bad teams but may get badly exposed by the league's upper echelon.

For all the autonomy Rodgers is said to have in the offense, he should feel free to ignore the "Breece up the gut" calls.

But they didn't pass a lot. Seemed like the team was protecting him. Might just getting back up to speed.

Hill is fortunate that the officers didn't draw their weapons when he rolled up the tinted windows. They had no idea if he was just being a dick -- he was -- or doing something else, like getting a gun from the console or somewhere else.

Between his arrogance, condescension and rolling up the window where they couldn't as clearly see what was happening, their "0 to 60" isn't abnormal.

First six possessions was three 3-and-outs, two turnovers on the minus side of the field and a touchdown.

I guess he was fine as the game got some distance. But having his shitbag coach friend be the OC so he doesn't have to deal with an OC is a problem against good teams.

You are right about that. There are two stories here. One is the unjust overreaction by the police officer which cannot be allowed. The other is Hill being an entitled asshole and finding himself in trouble yet again.
