NFL week 17 running thread

Favre is a good one, no doubt, even if he's a tad overrated. No one could throw five-pick games like Favre. No one could be more fun to watch, either, with the game on the line.

I still wonder how he ever managed to have the game he did against the Raiders the day after his father died. That's probably the game I'll probably remember the most from his career, easily.

The Saints are 1 win from the NFC title game, and 2 wins from the Super Bowl.
My Lawd !
(Been with them since I was 7 years old, so this is sort of special for me.)
Used to come home from church, take my place in the recliner, and watch them go head-to-head with the likes of Lawrence McCutcheon and Cullen Bryant, or John Brodie, or Steve Bartkowski, or Walter Payton or whoever.
Listen, those few Finks'-led seasons around '90-'91 were special, but this is the best yet.
The Saints are THE story of the 2006 NFL season.

OK, I watch football all the time and I watch a lot of guys get a roughing the passer call for tackling at the ankles.

I'm now watching the Bears game and it appeared Rex was tackled at the ankles. Why didn't the refs call that roughing the passer? Am I off-base on what roughing the passer is in the NFL?

This is a serious question and I really want to know. I have never played football, so I may be off completely on this. Thanks!

It's because the officials don't know how to consistently enforce the rule. The NFL told officials to pay extra close attention to hits below the knees on quarterbacks this year, the Carson Palmer rule, if you will.

I saw a defender land with his forarm on the top of Drew Brees' foot once this year and it was called roughing and I've seen another quarterback stood up by two defenders and then a third drilled him just below the knee with no call.

And Cowher goes out with a win.

The Bengals choked away about three wins this year. Clowns.

How many do you think the Steelers choked away? Bottom line, neither team got it done.

And Kansas City fans, you're welcome.

Did the Steelers ever lose consecutive games on a missed PAT and missed chippie FG?

Bengals should be 11-5, at least.

Congrats, BTW. :D

Yes, the Bengals gacked on a missed field goal, but the only reason they had that chance is because Willie Parker fumbled away a touchdown just before crossing the goal line.

Both teams made at least one huge mistake, but the Steelers dominated most of the game today.

These are the kinds of games they were losing early on. The sad thing watching the Bengals and Steelers today was knowing that either one of those teams would have a real shot at making the Super Bown in the NFC.

And by the way, the hell with Carson Palmer and his "we lost to a team we are better than" garbage. Both were 8-8. They split and the Bengals were lucky to even be close today.

I am still grappling with what was likely Favre's last game, might post later.

In the meantime, EAT A DICK BEARS!!!!!

I figured that was the response I would get because I didn't think I was that off-base. Thanks. Effing refs...

Brett, we gave you all and your bootlickers all sorts of hell here for the last few years, but here's a tip of the cap to the greatest QB I've ever seen. I wish everyone played the game as passionately as he did.

Off the knees, BYH, off the knees.

And yes, it appears the Bears suck, almost as much as spnited.

I can't believe KC backed into the playoffs.

Really didn't back in. You back in when you lose and other teams give you a hand.

Dungy has to be crapping his pants right now at the notion of trying to keep Larry Johnson to under 250 yards.

So, so many people to lay the blame at for the choke job in Denver:

--People who designed the POS new stadium for ruining the Broncos' home field advantage.
--Pat Bowlen for giving The Mastermind full control to assemble a defense that couldn't get a decent rush on a Pop Warner team without bringing the house.
--Shanahan for coaching a purely gutless game from start to finish. He played that game not to lose from the starting gun to the final kick. Gutless. Straight gutless. I won't even begin to list the number of times he could have attacked a dog-ass defense and instead chose to play it safe. If you're going to make the QB switch because the rook is the guy that can win in the playoffs, then fucking coach like it.
--The whole fucking defense (other than Champ Bailey) for not being able to keep a team that had quit from going up and down the field.
--Jay Cutler for AGAIN missing a WIDE OPEN receiver in a crucial spot (Marshall on 2nd down on the final drive).
--Jake Plummer for managing to go 0-for-2 with a fucking pick after Cutler had his bell rung.
--Tatum Bell for AGAIN fumbling in a big spot.
--Mike Bell for showing no ability whatsoever to score from inside the 5 on multiple opportunities.

A TERRIBLE performance from all involved (other than Champ Bailey). Tempered by the fact that even if they had managed to beat New England (possible) they would have been skullfucked sooner or later by somebody.

The Pack's receiving corps all played like a hybrid of Steve Largent, Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Lynn Swann and Lance Alworth.
