RIP Greg Gumbel

Dude. This just sucks. He (and his brother) are just two people I always enjoyed listening talk sports. RIP
 
darn. One of those good voices that was always on in the background for everything. So much so, I couldn't even tell you when his last game/studio show was. I think of an NFL update on CBS and I hear his voice, even if he hadn't done that job in 10 years.
 
Nice tribute. Gumbel's understated delivery and versatility probably kept him from getting the plaudits he deserved over his career. It was never about "him" always the broadcast. He was like that ref in a great game who nobody notices because the game is called perfectly.
