Maybe I should have put this in the boxing thread.

He was a Hall of Fame boxing columnist. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I'm sure some of you have.

That is an insane obit. Could you imagine if writers were getting into brawls now? RIP.

Very much enjoyed his company at a couple of fights. Big fights always struck me as more like movies than real life, and he certainly fit in that impression.

I tell people all the time the atmosphere/feel for a big fight is infinitely superior to a Super Bowl.

I didn't know Katz well at all, but I covered a couple of fights in the mid 90s as a fill-in for our regular boxing guy and Katz couldn't have been more helpful.
