SNL's Continued Downward Spiral Thread

After all my bellyaching, the thought does occur that they had a double-sized show and a super-sized ensemble but probably not any extra firepower in the writers' room. We of all people should appreciate it is sometimes harder to write short than write long on deadline.

From the way people were talking, some former writers (like Mulaney and the woman who co-created Debbie Downer) were back on the grind all week.

Agree, the Welk sketch was too high in the show and too long. The tiny hands thing by Wiig hasn't really been funny to me since the first time. But I do always chuckle at Ferrell doing Goulet.

I have no idea on ratings any more, but 15 million seems pretty good for the today's multi-platform world. It's not NFL numbers. But nothin is.

A minute out of each skit, eliminate Hanks in Black Jeopardy and then you don't run over the 3-hour window.
See……I know they wanted a dig at Trump, but Hanks there just made no sense.
How would anyone have felt if the Sandler sing closed out the show? There was your talk about moment this morning.

Cause I imagine they knew they were gonna run beyond their 3:15 window and some markets were gonna pull the Heidi at 11:16, if not far sooner. And also b/c you've got to end with McCartney, even if half the country and all of its DVRs might have missed it.

That feels like a case of strained relations between Lorne and Hader. As much as we look to SNL to skewer dickweed tyrant Trump, it's pretty clear Lorne has some of the same tendencies. And once Lorne feels you are no longer properly appreciative, you're frozen out.
I don't think there's any issues with Hader being frozen out. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been a VW commercial made with him based off the Californians, and Hader was pretty heavily involved with a lot of the documentary content on Peacock.

As for the writers, Mulaney, Seth Meyers and Paula Pell were among the heavy hitters known to have been involved between the live special and the skits during the concert.

Dooneese as a character kinda sucks. If you wanted a Wiig character, have her Target Lady and the customers are other famous characters in line.

In 2024 it would have been the 38th most watched program and outside sports behind only the Harris-Trump debate (20.3 mil), the Oscars (20.2 mil) and the Grammys (18.1)

I haven't seen an explanation anywhere, but I expected to see some sort of tribute to the original cast members. Chase, Curtin, Morris and Newman were there. In fact, I kind of expected that to be the opening scene.

I fully expected after the Morris/Belushi set……for them to come back from it and have Chase, Aykroyd, and Curtin seated in chairs by Morris.

I would have loved "Good Night, and have a pleasant tomorrow" then cut to black after the credits.

So I see this morning that Paul Simon is using that SNL appearance to launch a new, extensive US tour.

I don't get it. That version of "Homeword Bound" was depressing. He can't sing anymore. His voice is entirely gone.
