SNL's Continued Downward Spiral Thread

SHOCKING we disagree here, you big jerk! :D I loved Wayne's World thru the movie, but in classic modern SNL style, they killed the golden goose by making the sequel barely a year later. There wasn't much there there. But the skits leading up to the movie and the movie itself were all fantastic.
I kind of like Wayne's World 2! It's not as good of a movie as the original, but it's still got some great gags. And oddly, the humor in both has aged pretty well.

One giant absence that struck me last night (couldn't have been that big if it took me 24 hours to think of it): Wayne's World. Make me wonder if Dana Carvey had some health issues b/c he was all over the show pre-election.

I just started listening to some of the Carvey/Spade podcast. Depends on the guest, but it's usually pretty good. Lots of SNL of course.

Carvey not being there in some capacity was definitely noticeable.

Really glad Eddie Murphy dropped his boycott of all things SNL a while back (it was because of the Spade "falling star" joke, right?).

He's just always so good in the live sketch setting. The Tracy Morgan bit was gold.

It was. And I've morphed from "grow up and get over it, Eddie" to totally agreeing with him. He's Eddie forking Murphy. There wouldn't have been an SNL10 without him. He is the most sacred of sacred cows and his return in 2019 was joyous TV. (And also, Spade is now so washed up, he didn't even finish the NYC skit w/Davidson & Mullaney, which is kinda funny and ironic)

He "dropped" the feud in time for the 40th anniversary - That's why his appearance on that is kind of weird, where he doesn't make a joke or do a bit, he just talks sincerely for like a minute or so. After that, he's hosted and been slightly more involved.

I also love that Tracy is clearly one of those "comic's comic" guys. His act is a bit limited overall, but he's just so damn good at cracking up late night hosts and other comedians. His dynamic with Conan is great, one of the few guys who can get Conan off-balance. (The other one is Kevin Nealon, of all people, who had an off-the-wall podcast with him about two weeks ago.)

I'm curious if the three hour special was included as part of the number of shows - usually 20 - they do each season. They are at 12 now (not counting the special), but their last "regular" episode was Jan. 25th and they'll have gone over a month without an original.

It certainly seems as if it's being counted as an ep (and let's face it, it should probably count for two). The ep on the 25th touted the 50th anniversary special and the Mar. 1 episode was touted as the next new ep Sunday night

I heard that Nealon podcast. Great stuff. I wasn't the biggest Nealon fan when he was on the show (mostly because I loved Dennis Miller on Update and he was tough to replace, in my eyes). But he's a fantastic talk show/pod guest.

He couldn't win replacing Miller, but Kevin Nealon is way underrated. He was taking BP at Shea Stadium one day and said he liked "61*" and it inspired him to make a movie about the Mets.

Someone: What's it going to be called?
Nealon (not missing a beat: 69.

According to SNL Archives, the 40th anniversary didn't count toward the 21 episodes that season, which was around the norm for episode tallies around of that period, when strikes and pandemics weren't involved.
