That being said -- I am glad he wasn't fired or disciplined harshly -- I just think the station general manager's comments nailed it perfectly (imagine that a common sense approach to these things rather than a knee-jerk reaction.....) when he said "it was just a dumb thing to say."

In other words, lighten up Francis.
Ok, Mr. Spineless GM, you give him a forum to constantly say dumb things but you look the other way because you're scared of him.
He says that on the air, and then you take him to dinner?
What a coward both of you are.

Agreed. I could see letting it go at an apology if this was a first offense, but given Madden's history, they should have cut him loose over this one.

And if saying you're disappointed an elected official hasn't been shot and killed isn't a fireable offense for a STR host, what is?

Re: The end of Mark Madden?

I don't get how someone can be that rude, look at porn all day in the studio, not pull in that much in ratings or dollars, yet get away with all of that crap.
Oh, well, I choose to not patronize them at any point during the day because of him.

Come on. Whatever you think about Madden, that's funny.

No, it's not.

Yes, it is. But I'll admit it: I'm more offended by shameless cowardice and the covering up of a crime than I am by the tasteless jokes of a fat sports shock-jock.

Maybe one day I'll get my priorities in order.

WTF does that have to do with thinking the joke was in poor taste?

Re: The end of Mark Madden?

I must say, I'm impressed it took four pages for someone to make this a "fork Ted Kennedy" thread instead of discussing a shock jock meathead saying something reprehensible -- and make no mistake, this wouldn't be any less reprehensible if said about a politician on the other side of the aisle.

Re: The end of Mark Madden?

Someone on this board said Madden once called Franco Harris "a half breed". Harris was part of a group trying to get a Pittsburgh casino and Madden was on the side of a rival development.
I'm astonished he didn't get canned or ass-whipped for saying that.

He's also trashed Arnold Palmer. Who trashes Arnie!?!

A fat moron who probably can't have a vigorous sex life without blue pills and a stack of $100 bills, perhaps?

Man, there's something I do NOT want to think about.
