The Soccer thread (Part II)

Two of the worst kept secrets in soccer were made official today. Mourinho is the new Inter coach.

And Eriksson is officially out at Manchester City, with Mark Hughes being lined up to replace him. Whither Mexico for the Sven?

Is Man City really a step up from Blackburn for Hughes? Am I missing something there?

I think there's definitely going to be more money floating around, it's rumored one of City's targets this summer is Ronaldinho.

In BIG news today, the MISL folds ...

But as it says in the lede, it'll be back in a new incarnation soon enough.

I believe GB had suggested that we create a separate thread for the Euros and then start a new soccer thread, which I would be fine with. Otherwise we could do the Euros on here, and maybe start a new thread after.

That owner has disaster written all over him. Hughes is loved by the fans and he may have a real chance at the United job in a couple of years. He should stay put.

That was largely my reaction. He's in a good position to wait a bit more and really move up.

Almost, almost, almost...

It is only about 29-hours before I head to the airport for this.

I am not seen in the picture. I will certainly be drunk for 90% of my time there. I will probably not have internet access because I will be drunk and away from the computer.

Last year, I shook hands and later had a photo with Walter Smith. I said to him, "I really look forward to you signing DeMarcus Beasley." Smith didn't say anything as the Beasley deal wasn't done and was only in the rumor mill. I would like to believe (at least until it is proven otherwise) that I was instrumental in that signing.

Smith won't be there this year but Ian Durrant will. I plan to ask when they will sign Carlos Bocanegra.
