Tom Brady retires ... "for good"

I heard a number on Twitter, so take that for what it's worth, but Brady to FOX for 37.5 per.

For comparison's sake, the franchise tag for an NFL quarterback next season is like $33 million.

I was reminded today that Emitt Smith spent a year in the booth. Didn't remember that at all.
Yeah, there were so many guys that went into it and washed out. I'd forgotten Jerry Rice worked in a network studio.

There may have been more people who thought Brady could make it in the NFL when he was drafted in the sixth round in 2000 than think he'll be anything but horrible as a TV football commentator today. Anyone on this board think he'll be good? The most devoted Pats' fans of my acquaintance think Brady will be dull at best, soporific at worst.

Did you see him on the Manningcast? He was gold, Jerry!

Not saying this will happen with Brady ('cause I have no idea), but people said the same thing about Aikman and he's still at the top of the heap 20 years later.

Aikman has gotten better as he has gone along. He's an example of how former players' candor tends to grow as the guys they competed with/against leave the scene. His longevity (by far the most amazing stat of his career IMO) means almost everyone Brady's played with or against has left the scene. He had five games against Mahomes and two against Hurts, for example. He barely knows them. So he has a shot, but his always-smiley public face makes me doubt Brady will give his true opinions on the air. Besides, he probably has to be extra-nice to any current players he led down the FTX drain.
