Ukraine Always Get What You Want

I see this differently:

Putin has done such a job sowing discord in the US that a darn decent amount of Americans, mostly on the right, have taken his side. I think this is a test to see how much American support there will be to against him. 30 years ago they were still the evil empire behind the iron curtain. Now? fork, I've heard people say they like Putin more than previous American leaders because he is "more manly" than them.

I won't say there are none, because there's always idiots out there, but I haven't heard a single major right-wing talking head saying Putin is in the right here and that war in the Ukraine would be a good thing. Anyone with half a brain realizes how dangerous this situation is, especially when you consider some of the other bad actors around the world (China, North Korea) closely watching to wait for their cue to act on their own nefarious interests.

The safe money was on India-Pakistan or Israel-Random Moslem State. But Russia-Ukraine? I didn't have that on the Global Thermonuclear War bingo card.

Speaking of India, keep a close eye on them if this truly blows up into a war beyond Europe.
One of the general beliefs/fears is that once Russia goes into Ukraine, China will take that as an opportunity to invade Taiwan. But one of the lesser reported stories from the past few years has been a low-key border war between China and India. It's just been skirmishes so far, but there have been soldiers killed on both sides. A year or two ago they had a bloody hand-to-hand fight on the side of a mountain where they were throwing each other over the side. They've also made their share of diplomatic moves against each other, and after or in conjunction with a Taiwan invasion the ChiComs could look at the outbreak of war as an opportunity to clean up another problem area.
If China gets aggressive toward its neighbors, the first nuke to fly could well be launched by an Indian government that's about to be overrun.

China and India's low-grade conflict is low-key primarily because it's being fought in the Himalayas, and the logistical challenges of just keeping troops, fed, unfrozen and equipped are such that neither side has mashive numbers there. I also doubt if China wants to fight a two-front war. Taiwan is a huge priority for them. The India border is a minor one.

I'm old enough to remember covering the Persian Gulf War Super Bowl, XXV. I was sure Saddam would do SOMETHING to force a break in the Super Bowl broadcast. This was a war in which, unlike Ukraine, American troops were in active combat. Nothing interrupted the game. Nothing. If the balloon goes up, NBC will run a flash chyron and direct any viewer interested to MSNBC.

Good and valid points. I was just pointing toward it as a potential surprise flashpoint no one is looking at given the much more obvious ones.

It was in for upgrades, adding a couple of observation decks and expanding the swimming deck. Left abruptly before things were done a couple of days ago, moved into Russian territorial waters.

'Putin's superyacht' abruptly left Germany amid sanctions warnings
Now the czar told the boogaloo
You have to let that MAGA drop
The oil down the tundra way
Has been shakin' to the top
The czar, he piloted his big boat
He went a-cruisin' down Oligarchville
The GRU was a-standin'
On the radiator grille

Putin don't like it
Yacht the Mockba
Yacht the Mockba
Putin don't like it
Yacht the Mockba
Yacht the Mockba

By order of the Donald
We ban that CRT sound
Eliminate the faithful
With that crazy Ukraine sound
But Rasputin they brought out
With the NATO jets
The local teen hacker
Got his web-hackin' thumb
As soon as Putin had cleared the square
They began to wail

Putin don't like it
Yacht the Mockba
Yacht the Mockba
Putin don't like it
Yacht the Mockba
Yacht the Mockba

Now over at the arena
Oh, they really pack 'em in
The in-crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
And the red hat band took five
The crowd caught a whiff
Of that crazy Kiev jive
