Week 6 college football thread: Calgorithm is Gonna Get You

Florida has played its best game against a so-called decent opponent this year. Didn't expect that at all.

This is one of my peeves.
Arkansas, down one point with five minutes left, punted on fourth and four deep in its own territory. I maintain that if you're down exactly one point, you should go for it in your own territory. Especially if you're deep in your own territory. Why? Because the one-point deficit is the only one at which you can allow a TD and an extra point and still be in a one-possession game. If you punt, you give the opponent enough room that they can run out the clock. If you go for it and fail, so what? Let them score. They will almost certainly kick the PAT. You're down eight. You're still in it. Punt and run the risk of watching them run the clock out.

Counterpoint: Arkansas 19, Tennessee 15 with 1:17 left.

In this instance, I was wrong. Arkansas punted, got the ball back and scored a go-ahead TD. I maintain that going for it is the right play most of the time.
