We're seeing a thinning out, I believe, in the FOX/ESPN sports reporting ranks for fewer (or simply cheaper) replacements.
Information specialists have value. Woj, Schefter, Glazer. They get scoops. That's the value now. Who is first with confirmed big information.
This happened to Pam Oliver a few years ago. She did a strong job of getting information on FOX, pre-Twitter. Then her value decreased as Twitter got more scoops. Then FOX simply replaced her with younger and, in some cases, cheaper. Sideline reporters who aren't constantly breaking stories now need another skill set -- anchoring/hosting pre-game shows. Maria Taylor and Laura Rutledge are making that jump. Erin Andrews couldn't anchor worth a damn -- she was fortunate in her timing in the business but even her value is declining as she doesn't break stories. She is just another person asking the coach two questions at halftime.
Maria Taylor doesn't strike me as much of a host. (But neither does Samantha Ponder).
Sage Steele had more anchoring talent. Wrong politics though.
