As insane as it always sounds when people throw the words "false flag" around, this has some hallmarks of a false coup to allow Erdogan to remove whomever he wanted. Case in point...the rebels passed up a chance to shoot down Erdogan's jet.

Hard to know who to root for in that one.

On one hand, you have a guy staging a coup to set himself up as a pro-Islam dictator.

Traditionally, it is the Turkish Army who yanks the chain when the civil government grows to be too much of a theocracy. Erdogan seems to have found a way to break that cycle. He's purging any non-loyalists, and he's attempting to reinstate the death penalty to boot.

I heard a quote today from a Turkish man in the street interview. "You have the army fighting the police. I don't know what to think. Are we turning into Syria?"
