NFL Week 12 -- I Wish Turkey Only Cost A Nickel

Q, you have omitted cases like Joe Flacco and Nick Foles, where a journeyman and a backup turned into Joe Montana during their teams' Super Bowl runs. Doesn't negate your point, but teams have caught lightning in a bottle in the recent past.

I mentioned Foles. Forgot about Flacco.

Not sure if this was mentioned or if there's a thread for it and I'm too lazy to look for either one, but Denver 29, Cleveland 12 on Sunday was a Scorigami.

I thank you so much for using "journeyman" correctly. It means a skilled and reliable performer who is not a star. It does NOT mean a player who has played for many teams -- though many journeyman-type players end up playing for multiple teams.

According to Merriam-Webster, "The journey in journeyman refers to a sense of the familiar word not often used anymore: 'a day's labor.' This sense of journey was first used in the 14th century. When journeyman appeared the following century, it originally referred to a person who, having learned a handicraft or trade through an apprenticeship, worked for daily wages. In the 16th century, journeyman picked up a figurative (and mainly deprecatory) sense; namely, 'one who drudges for another.' These days, however, journeyman has little to do with drudgery, and lots to do with knowing a trade inside out."

Yes, and if 2015 seems like a million years ago, what do you think 2000 seems like in terms of how the NFL has changed?

You'll never see a defense like that year's Ravens again. The rules are designed specifically to prevent that.
Yep. Would be interesting to see how many hits across the league in 2000 would be flagged today.

Eh, some of that stuff is tongue in cheek and humorous. Pretty sure laughter hasn't entered the Deadspin universe in close to a decade, if ever. Misplaced anger is their fuel. I'm smart enough to avoid to political stuff and just read the occasional hot sports take. Which is why I can't read anything from Deadspin, Defektor or any of their I-hate-everything cousins.
What if they're all trash and you shouldn't read any of them?
