NFL Week 7 -- I Goff at your Darnold

There is not a single post where I was a whiny fanboy. The team which I rooted for lost a game 24 hours before I posted. I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy with respect to Watson and Ben — the fact that the Steelers beat the Jets this week has nothing to do with that.

Again, take a few minutes to consider why you have had Pishing matches for years on a regular basis on NFL threads.
As Tim McKyer once said, "Personal vendettas seem to follow me around."

I am a functioning adult who doesn't hold random grudges against teams. I'm sure you will write 3 more posts that I'm a whiny fanboy I look forward to someone else being your target in the Week 8 thread.

You could have fooled me. Seriously, just stop. I'm happy to play the bad guy for you. You seem to need it. Have a lovely evening.

The quest to design a safer helmet has been going on since I was a kid. At some point in the early '60s, Ohio State wore helmets that were allegedly safer (they weren't and were abandoned).

Yeah. They had an external layer of leather that was very prominent in photos. I believe a few pros used them too -- Willie Lanier maybe?

I think in the 80s/90s there was a brief vogue of helmets with external foam rubber. As I recall the consensus seemed to be that the softer rubber exteriors tended to "stick" to opposing players during impact, increasing the frequency of neck problems, so those faded away.

Of course we all remember the Rhino Rolls of the early to mid Seventies.

@2muchcoffeeman, please note that not only did Webster here start this, but he is dragging it out because he doesn't like the way I've exposed his fanboy rage. I already rolled my eyes and tried to move on, but he posted this nonsense. I'm sorry if it doesn't meet your approval, but I'm going to respond.

There is no hypocrisy. I have never lied in defense of Roethlisberger as Garrett did in defense of Watson. There was an interesting discussion someone tried to start about players supporting Watson, but you ruined that with your bullship. I haven't just acknowledged that Roethlisberger was and still is a bad guy. I've argued it, so please kindly stuff your false accusation against me somewhere uncomfortable.

That said, I find it funny that you are trying to sell me or anybody on the notion that it was just a coincidence that you went out of your way to start a Pishing match with a Steelers fan the day after that team buried your Jets. I'm not buying it, fanboy.

I haven't had a Pishing match like this on here in a while, so perhaps you should go back and read through this discussion again and realize you started this mess and you are the one keeping it going. Your ashamed silence would be a wonderful way to answer this post. Let's see if you have the self-discipline to do it.

The Browns announced Jameis Winston will take over last the starting quarterback now that Watson is out for the season. Did they just get better?

Green Bay with white helmets is an affront to a historically great scheme.

From an aesthetic standpoint, there was any number of irritating things with this concept. First, it was called a "Winter Warning" game when it was sunny and mid-60s in Green Bay of all places.

Second, they cheated and ripped off their own road jerseys and the pants design they last used during their mandatory Color Rush (yes, the Packers' Color Rush was white) era. Both of those have gold stripes but the helmets don't, so it looks like an adult coloring book where they give you the yellow to start.

I agree with the opinions that NFL play has gotten progressively worse over recent seasons because of poor coaching.
Has there been a new coach named in the past five years or so who shows growth year after year? I used to think McVay but that's stretching it.

As loathe as I am to say it, Kevin O'Connell is doing a lot of work in Minnesota. I picked that team to go 4-13 this year because I didn't think he could turn Darnold into a useful QB and they had too many roster holes, but he (and DC Brian Flores) have done a first-clash job.
