2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class

They really forked over these guys because here are the newcomers next year:

Larry Fitzgerald
Drew Brees
Philip Rivers
Jason Witten
Frank Gore

At first glance, I would say all are HOFers, but the way the voters have gone the past few years, I can easily see Rivers, Witten and Gore waiting. Possibly Fitzgerald.

No way Fitzgerald isn't in on the first ballot. Agree on the other three. They all have some unwarranted ding on their resumes that are just enough to push them back in the line behind someone else.

My thinking is if Owens waited three turns, it may take Fitzgerald more than once. I hope I'm wrong.

Owens was (or at least was perceived as) an asshole. Fitzgerald has a sterling reputation across the board. I think that will help him a lot.

I'm hoping you are right. Fitzgerald has 11 pro bowls, which is a staggering number. But if Owens had 30 more Tds in about 40 less games.

Fitzgerald's TD output has to be graded on the Cardinals curve.

He and Brees ought to be first-ballot guys. I can see an argument for Witten to be the same, but it is easier to get an Augusta National membership than to put a tight end in Canton. The world won't end if Rivers and Gore hang out for a bit.

Despite the lack of All-Pro nods, Fitzgerald is second all-time in yards and catches. he has 1,500 yards more than Owens, who is third, and 107 catches more than Gonzalez. If you look at only receivers he is 330 ahead of third-place Harrison on that list

I don't think anyone thought Rivers wasn't going to have to wait. He was becoming eligible with Brees and Roethlisberger is eligible in 2027 with Brady coming on the ballot in 2028. The fact that Eli got held over obviously doesn't help Rivers either.

Gore is going to be interesting. He's got a better resume than Taylor and Peterson is a first-timer with Roethlisberger. Outside of that he's the best candidate for his position.

I see Gore has exactly 16,000 yards in 16 seasons. I want to vote for him just because of the incredible symmetry.

I never once thought "oh shirt. We're going against Gore today?" which is my personal HOF standard, but whatever. 16,000 yards on the dot.

So I assume you'd be out on Fred Taylor as well?

Gore was one of four all-decade picks for the 2010s -- him, Peterson, McCoy and Lynch.

In a span of 12 seasons, he had 1,000 yards 10 times and two others were 967 and 961

I never went into a game worried about Frank Gore, but many concluded with me thinking, "Damn that guy killed us/them."
