SNL's Continued Downward Spiral Thread

I kind of like Wayne's World 2! It's not as good of a movie as the original, but it's still got some great gags. And oddly, the humor in both has aged pretty well.

I certainly don't mind giving the sequel another chance! I just remember it felt forced and thin in '93. But I saw the original for its 25th anniversary return to the theaters and it was just as funny as it was in '92.

Didn't realize that Dan Aykroyd was just 23 on the first season, making him almost a decade younger than Chase. Fitzhume and Milbarge!

My wife and daughter re-watched the anniversary show tonight. A few cast members I didn't notice.

- Anyone other than Martin Short and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who isn't famous because of her SNL stint) from the 1984-85 cast? Was Billy Crystal around? I think people forget how popular that season was. I was in 8th grade at the time and rarely missed it. It was a unicorn season, but in a good way. (Though I'm sure quite a bit of what I thought was funny at 13 hasn't dated well.)
- Anyone other than Lovitz from the 1985-86 cast? That season is justly infamous, but there were some stars in that cast.

I watched the Peacock doc on the 1985-86 season. Interesting. I recall thinking that season got better as it went along once I got used to the unconventional (and uneven) manner in which it played out. And as the doc touches on, it became self-referential in how bad it was going at the time which was pretty funny.

Billy Crystal was definitely there. Saw him a couple of times in the crowd.

I know Dennis Miller went pretty hard right after 9/11. Not sure if bridges were burned or what. But he's not really been involved with much since he left, as far as I know.

Heard Miller on the Carvey/Spade podcast recently. Good interview. No politics.

Conan and others love to impersonate Miller, which is funny enough on its own. He's probably still my favorite solo Update anchor.

I don't agree with his politics at all, but still have a ton of admiration for Miller. He's the greatest SNL news anchor by miles and his Off-White album is one of the funniest comedy albums I've ever heard.

I tried watching the red carpet show and bailed about 7 minutes in. It was an unprepared Leslie Jones and some dude I don't know fawning over the cast members. I didn't wait to see if Willie Geist added any professionalism.

I watched about 10 minutes, and it seemed like an environment especially bad for Geist, who I usually like. That whole program was a cluster fork.
