“New” Beatles song

The song is OK. Pretty much like "Free as a Bird" or whatever it was called the last time there was a "new" song post-1970. Fine but not really memorable.

I saw the video last night. It was late. I was tired. But I found it to be creepy as fork. Not in a good way. The CGIing of old clips didn't work at all for me.

At least they didn't try to use AI to see what Lennon and Harrison would look like now?

But not good, IMO.

All three songs are John Lennon filler album cuts that the other three guys happened to play on. I'm certain John would be amused that his diddling at the piano somehow was considered "unreleased Beatles."

Real Love is probably the best of the three because it's less draggy and probably sounds less like an ELO ballad than the other two, and even then, Jeff Lynne would have made better attempts at putting a hook or two in there. And they're not bad but they're not Beatles tunes. But agreed that the video creeped the hell out of me last night. Somebody needs to parody that like the Total Eclipse of the Heart video. It's that awful.

I saw it on Disney+. ashume it's on multiple platforms. But that does remind me to watch the Peter Jackson/Let It Be documentary. That was great.

I'll give pretty much any Beatles stuff a try. Sort of like the JFK stuff. Don't know what else I can learn, but fork if I won't watch the new thing History Channel is putting out this weekend.

I remember hearing "Free as a Bird" in the back seat of my parents' car nearing home from a Christmas trip to my grandparents.

The Beatles would have never broke up or even gone on an extended hiatus if the touring money in 1970 had been like today. The money was starting that direction in 1980 when they kicked around a reunion before Lennon died.

They officially broke up on April 4, 1970.
Ringo turned 30 in July, Lennon in October.

Musically, I thought "Now and Then" was ok, but no better. Technologically it was very good.
But you could tell it was something John had just decked around with for an hour or so.
It was VERY obvious why FAAB and Real Love were picked for the first resuscitation efforts in the Nineties; they were better songs. George's active participation helped too; lifting a couple of scavenged riffs and plugging them into "Now and Then" with Paul doubling to fill out the sound smacks a bit of the compulsive micromanagement and one-upping George hated most, and I can't imagine he'd be too happy. Whatever of George's they used should have been clearly and unmistakably George's.

I didn't like the video. As others have said, it seemed pretty creepy, reminding us unmistakably that John and George are gone and Paul is, well, old. Most of the clips are pretty familiar from other sources.

OK, now I know they have proclaimed "this is THE LAST (the very last, the absolute last) Beatles song," but I think there are a few more they could, maybe should go back and polish up ...

Lennon's Line: "It was a lousy track of a great song, and I was so disappointed by it," he told Sheff, blaming the others – specifically McCartney – for not "supporting me or helping me with it. ... Julian and Sean have been quoted in other recent interviews they plan to " do some music together." That would work great; call them in to act as "consulting producers" and add some vocal/instrumental segments as needed. They've both covered their dad's songs in the past so they wouldn't be breaking any big taboos. The same goes with Dhani and George's stuff; he should be in the room if they're working on George's songs.

Heard it the other day and it sounded like something that never would have been released when they were active, certainly not in the form it's in now.

One thing I've learned listening to box sets over the years: there's a reason unreleased tracks and alternate takes were in the vault. Others mileage may vary but to me, in the overwhelming majority of cases, they add little to the artists' catalogue. Rarely have I heard something and thought, "ship, why did they never release that?"
