2024-25 College Basketball Thread

Kind of odd that the scorebar at the top of espn.com doesn't indicate the second men's game.

I mean, I know the game completed 16 hours ago is huge, but . . . :)

The Sports-Reference.com college hoops search function's data is unreliable -- it has Louisiana Lafayette with 18 assists and 16 field goals in a 2004 tourney loss to NC State -- but if that's the only error on this topic, it's interesting: Five teams in tourney history since 1996 have assisted ≥ 95% of their field goals. All five have lost.
Assists correlate less to winning than people think. Because ultimately, it often means you have to pass to get people open - you lack that great individual talent to just beat someone off the dribble, for example.

According to Pomeroy's probabilities, here are the chances of SEC Final Four participation at each level:
All 4: 5.9%
3 teams: 34.2%
2 teams: 36.6%
1 team: 19.3%
0 teams: 4.0%

To put it another way, there's a 77% chance of multiple participants.
The single most likely of the 16 possible scenarios has a 19% chance of coming to fruition. It is Duke, Florida, Auburn, Houston.

Despite the dreaded early morning practices and long trip to the Northwest, Paige Bueckers is absolutely lighting it up in Spokane with a career high scoring game.

Down 3 at halftime, UConn has opened up a 20-point lead on the Sooners midway through the fourth quarter.

Geno's gonna be ok. He never had a problem with Hartford or Bridgeport hosting every damned year.

One team gets hot. One team goes cold.

I will say, it probably wouldn't hurt anything to call at least one foul in those Texas tech, big men pushing off as they go to the hoop.
