2024-25 NHL regular season thread

I'm waiting for someone to kick Tkachuk's ass. Ottawa has a game with the Jackets soon. Olivier is just the guy to do it.
I'd pay money to see that little bench get his ass kicked.

Also, Blues come back from down 2-0 on the road to beat Nashville. Their 8th win in a row.

Not expecting a deep playoff run, but they could be a team no one wants to play in the postseason.

How bad are the Rangers? Last night, the Ducks took 5 penalties in the third period and still came back from a 4-2 deficit to win, 5-4, in OT. Included was a 5-on-3 for 1-1/2 minutes. The Ducks scored with 4-1/2 minutes left, then again with about 1:40 to go to tie. They won the OT faceoff and controlled the puck the entire time (almost one minute) before a nice tic-tac-toe play produced the winning goal.

Interesting (at least to me). At this writing, Ovechkin is five goals away from tying Gretzky, having played five fewer games it took 99 to achieve 894.

What's worse is that win put NYR in the second wild card position in the East. Other than Ottawa, all the wild card teams suck and have been playing like dogshirt. I have no idea why Red Wings-Bruins was the ABC game Saturday night.

I was gonna write a fake lead to this story:
The New York Rangers surged into a tie for the last wild-card spot in the East with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night at Honda Center.
The Rangers secured the crucial point by giving up goals with 4:30 and 1:40 to go. The Ducks won it OT despite being whistled for 5 penalties on the third period.
etc..

Interesting bush-league play at the end of the Canadiens-Panthers game on Sunday. Even more interesting since they play again on Tuesday.

When the Red Wings traded Tyler Bertuzzi to the Bruins, they got Boston's 2024 first round pick. They traded the pick to Ottawa as part of the Alex DeBrincat deal. Ottawa sent it back to Boston as part of the Linus Ullmark deal. Boston took Dean LeTourneau, a 6-7 C who had no goals and three assists on 36 games for Boston College this season
