2025-26 College basketball coaching carousel

We can take Dusty May off the board. He and his agent parlayed the IU opening into a new deal.

idk the original length he had signed but after this turnaround he was probably getting a new deal anyway
True. But the threat of losing him to the alma mater probably compelled Michigan to guarantee more $ in player compensation etc. If I were in the racket, I would probably want to prioritize player $$$. You know you're making enough to live on. So you move on to insuring competitive success.

Isn't going from Michigan to Indiana kind of a lateral move?
RMK isn't walking through that door anytime soon.
That job isn't near the pearl it was many moons ago.

He's an IU grad and was a student manager under Knight, so Michigan was taking no chances.

It is when they throw a mountain of NIL at it compared to other schools. They've also made it known they're committed to spending a lot more of their House settlement cap on men's basketball than other programs who will presumably throw most of it at football.

All of that, plus May's ties to Indiana (not just IU, but he grew up a county away), and Michigan's hand was forced.

He's an Indiana guy and it was his dream job - until he landed a better one. My guess is that he realized that he was better off at Michigan and let his agent work the salary bump.

The only thing he could do at Indiana was damage his legacy there. There really is very little to gain by "going home" for anyone except a young coach. Ol' Roy excepted.
