2025 NFL offseason thread

The problem with Rodgers going to a bad team like Tennessee is that he willl use it as an opportunity to hijack the franchise to hire some of his friends. Vegas would be interesting, but Pete Carroll probably isn't putting up with his shirt. If he was going that route, might a well sell himself to Pittsburgh and at least play with a fringe playoff team. Maybe Tomlin will let him throw 35 back shoulders a game.

The worst part is that Tomlin and Rodgers seem to share a mutual admiration, which could lead to him ending up in Pittsburgh. Rodgers has lost much of his ability to avoid the pass rush, which was a problem with a Jets team that couldn't protect him last season. The Steelers are no better. Their line was a problem and they are likely to lose their left tackle to free agency. At least the Jets had weapons. The Steelers don't have much for Rodgers to throw to other than Pickens. Maybe that ends up being a feature rather than a bug if Adams comes as part of a package deal, but that eats up a lot of cap space for a temporary solution that is likely to fail.

A buddy of mine who is also a Steelers fan texted me when he read about the rumors of Rodgers to Pittsburgh. He wrote that it would be a mistake of grave proportions. He wrote that Rodgers is "a cancer, and I don't say that lightly." My friend is a two-time cancer survivor.

Good news for Steelers fans is that many of the ones from Westmoreland, Beaver and Butler counties share the same political views as Rodgers so they'd have that bond at least.

As a Jets fan, I guess that means I am, too.

My hot take: Jimmy Haslam asking for $1.2 billion of public funding to move the team's stadium out of the city after the Desean Watson debacle is as bad as anything Art Modell ever did.

And does he think people in Cleveland can afford PSL's? There will be empty seats out the wazoo.

49ers are reportedly "exploring" a sale of up to 10 percent of the team

The DeBartolo Family bought the Niners in 1977 for $13m, (which in today's dollars is about $177m). But the actual VALUE of the Niners today? $9 Billion with a BIG ASS B. So yeah, the owners are making crazy money. I don't know if the minority ownership stakes are to help with estate planning, or just to get a big chunk of cash. I just am curious what a minority stake in an NFL team gets you for the millions you have to pony up for a small slice. Sure you probably get a great seat at all the games, and maybe you wet your beak for a majority stake of a team somewhere down the line - but dang. $900m is a lot to ask when that is the last time you will consider that person's opinion on anything. (Tom Brady excepted, of course).

They are now all allowed to sell up to 10% to PE firms, so you are going to see this story for most teams.

My 2025 interaction with the DeBartolos is hearing their name mentioned as the builder of the now-abandoned Midwest shopping mall on the abandoned mall Youtube feeds I'm inexplicably drawn to.

My wife has about had it with me watching people walk through an abandoned mall with chill music playing in the background.

Well, yeah.
